214. Captain Richard Brackett (bp. 1610–1690)
Captain Richard Brackett was baptized on 16 September 1610 at St. Gregory, Sudbury, Suffolk. [1] He died on 30 March 1690, age 80. [1] He married Alice Blower on 6 January 1633/4 at St. Katherine by the Tower, London. [1]

Alice Blower was baptized on 30 June 1615 at St. Gregory. [1]
Richard Brackett migrated in 1632. He returned to England to marry and returned to New England in 1634. [1] Richard was admitted to the Boston church shortly before 11 November 1632. [1] Richard was a husbandman. He was the keeper of the Boston jail from 1637 to 1640. [1] Richard Brackett was a freeman on 25 May 1636. [2] He was a admitted to the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company in 1639. [1] Richard and Alice were recommended to the Braintree church on 5 December 1641. Richard was dismissed to the Braintree church to be a deacon on 8 May 1642. [1] Richard was deputy to the general court from Braintree many times between 23 May 1655 and 4 January 1680/1. He was a Braintree selectman for five years during 1652 to 1683. He was clerk of writs from 1646 to 1654. [1] Richard Brackett of Braintree wrote his will on 29 January 1689. He left all of his estate in Braintree and the income of his estate in Billerica to his wife Alice for her "comfortable subsistence" for life. He also left bequests to the children of his son John and his wife Hannah; his son Peter Brackett ; his son-in-law Simon Crosby; his son-in-law Joseph Thompson, the daughters of his deceased son Josiah; his son James Brackett ; his daughter Hannah Blancard; his daughter Rachel Crosby. His son and executor James Brackett presented Captain Richard Brackett 's estate for probate on 19 December 1690. [3] Children of Richard Brackett and Alice Blower: i. Hannah Brackett was baptized on 4 January 1634/5 in Boston. She died on 3 July 1706 in Dunstable. She married first Samuel Kinsley. She married second Deacon John Blanchard. ii. Peter Brackett (twin?) was baptized on 7 May 1637 in Boston. [1] He was living on 29 January 1689. He married first Elizabeth Bosworoth on 7 August 1661 in Braintree. [1] He married second the widow Sarah Foster of Cambridge on 30 March 1687 in Billerica. [1] Sarah (Parker) (Foster) Brackett died on 18 April 1818 in Billerica. [4, 71] iii. John Brackett (twin?) was baptized on 7 May 1637 in Boston. [1] He died on 18 March 1686/7 in Billerica. [5] He married first Hannah French on 7 August 1661 in Billerica. [1] He married second [the widow] Ruth Ellis on 31 March 1675 in Billerica. [1] Ruth, the daughter of John and Annis Morse, was born on 3 June 1637 and baptized as "Rachel" on 15 March 1640 in Dedham. [5] She married first John Ellis on 24 May 1672 in Dedham. [5] iv. Rachel Brackett was baptized on 3 November 1639 in Boston. [1] was living on 29 January 1689. She married Simon Crosby on 15 July 1659. [1] Simon, the son of Simon and Ann Crosby, was born in August 1637 and died on 22 January 1725. [4, 71] v. Mary Brackett was born on 1 February 1641 in Braintree. [1] She married Joseph Thompson on 22 July 1662 in Braintree. [1] Joseph was living on 29 January 1689. vi. James Brackett was born about 1646 in Braintree. [1] He died in April 1718, age 73. [4, 71] He married Sarah Marsh by 1675. [1] She died on 6 October 1727, age 77. [4, 71] James was a cooper. [4, 71] vii. Josiah Brackett was born on 8 May 1652 in Braintree. [1] He married Elizabeth Waldo on 4 February 1672 in Billerica. [1] Elizabeth was the daughter of Cornelius Waldo of Chelmsford. [4, 71] He died before 29 January 1689. viii. Sarah Brackett was born say 1655 in Braintree. [1] She married Joseph Crosby. [1] Joseph, a brother of Sarah's sister Rachel's husband, was born in February 1638/9 and he died on 26 November 1695. [4, 71] Sarah married second William Rawson of Braintree on 26 October 1700 in Billerica. [4, 71] He died on 20 Septemer 1726. [4, 71] |
The English Ancestry of Captain Richard Bracket PETER BRACKETT (Richard, William, William) was born about 1680/5 and he died on 25 August 1616 in All Saints, Sudbury, County Suffolk. He married Rachel Unknown. [4, 73] Peter wrote his will on 18 August 1616, mentioning his wife and children Peter, Richard and Rachel. He left the rent from his house in St. Peter's in Sudbury to his father Richard for life. He referred to Peter as his eldest son. [4, 73] Rachel died on 15 September 1651 in Braintree, Massachusetts. She married second as his second wife Martin Saunders. Martin died on 4 August 1658. He married third Elizabeth, the widow of Roger Bancroft, on 23 May 1654. [4, 73] Rachel, her daughter Rachel, her son-in-law Francis Newcomb and his children went to New England on the Planter in 1635. [1] Children of Peter and Rachel Brackett: i. Peter Brackett was born about 1608. [4, 80] married Martha Ray. [1] Peter came to Braintree about 1636. [1] ii. Captain Richard Brackett was baptized on 16 September 1610 in Sudbury. [6] Francis was born aout 1605 and died on 27 May 1692 in Braintree. [6] iv. Jonathan Brackett was baptized on 4 October 1616 in Sudbury. [4, 80] RICHARD BRACKETT (William, William) was born about 1550/1554 in Sudbury. [4, 79] He was buried on 26 May 1626 in Long Melford (near Sudbury). He (at least) second Alice Harper on 25 September 1589 in All Saints. He married third the widow Greengrasse on 4 February 1601/2 in Long Melford. [4, 79] Childrenof Richard Brackett: [4, 79] i. Richard Brackett (presumably) was born about 1580/5. He married Margaret Weeden on 30 May 1607 in Long Melford. ii. Rose Brackett (probably) married William Chapman on 28 August 1603 in Sudbury. iii. Tobias Brackett (probably) was born about 1585/90. He was buried on 23 June 1634 in Long Melford. He married Joan Fleete on 1 September 1613 in Long Melford. She was buried on 18 January 1635/6 in Long Melford. iv. Peter Bracket was born about 1680/5 and died on 25 August 1616 in All Saints. He married Rachel unknown. WILLIAM BRACKETT (William) William Bracket was born about 1515/20. He was buried on 6 May 1575. He married Alice Unknown. She married second Richard Morells (Merrells). [4, 87] William, butcher of Sudbury, made his will on 4 May 1575. [4, 87] Children of William Brackett: [4, 87] i. Edmund Brackett (apparently) ii. Margaret Brackett (probably) was baptized on 30 June 1544 in St. Mary's, Bury St. Edmunds. She was buried there on 1 July 1545. iii. Susan Brackett was baptized on 14 June 1545 in St. James, Bury St. Edmunds. She probably died young. iv. Unknown Brackett, name illegible, was baptized on 22 Februry 1546/7 in St. James. v. Margaret Brackett (perhaps) was born about 1548. On 10 October 1566, Margaret Brekett, spinster of Sudbury, was murdered by Thomas Curley, who cut her throat as she walked along the road to Sudbury. vi. Richard Brackett (probably) was born 1550/4. He was buried on 26 May 1626 in Long Melford. He married second Alice Harper. He married first Unknown Greengrasse. vii. William Brackett (probably) was born 1555. He married Alice Bull on 21 July 1582 in St. Peter's. viii. Maude Brackett (probably) was baptized on 20 November 1560 in Bury S. Edmunds. She married George Goldyng on 2 February 1585/6 in St. Gregory's, Sudbury. WILLIAM BRACKETT William Bracket of Sudbury was listed as an able archer in the 1522 military survey of Sudbury. He had a brother Edward who died in 1540. [4, 95] Children of William Brackett: [4, 95] i. William Brackett was born about 1515/20. He was buried on 6 May 1575. He married Alice Unknown. ii. George Brackett iii. Thomas Brackett died in 1573. He wrote his will on 10 September 1573. |
